CSA Baskets - 2016 Season
Abbey Lane Farm is again excited to offer CSA baskets to our valued customers.
Now let me explain what exactly a CSA is. Community Sponsored Agriculture is when consumers pre-purchase produce for a number of weeks over a season and are rewarded with a bounty of fresh fruit and vegetables weekly. Pre-paying helps the farmer with start up costs in the early spring when there is no income.
Each week you will receive a basket of fresh picked seasonal fruit and vegetables. The program will run from the beginning of June until the middle of October, 20 weeks in total. At the beginning of the season, payment is given and then you will receive baskets weekly. Each basket is $25.00 and will be filled with fresh produce that is growing on the farm at that time. In the early spring and late fall, your basket may be supplemented with dried, canned, frozen or baked goodies because fresh produce is not in abundance as it is in the summer time and so that you don’t receive a glut of the same produce.
Expect 8 to 12 different items (subject to seasonal availability). Some of the produce that you can expect in your weekly share:
Lettuce, spinach, kale, Swiss chard, cucumbers, radishes, beets, carrots, broccoli, snow peas, turnips, kohlrabi, rhubarb, scallions, garlic scapes, herbs, raspberries, red and black currant, blackberries, plums, strawberries, tomatoes, summer and winter squash, beans, cauliflower, garlic, onions, eggplant, peppers, leeks, melons, tomatillos, cabbage, potatoes, etc.
